What ChatJP2 is

ChatJP2 provides Catholic parishes with an assistant that answers parishioners' and visitors' questions using information the parish has published on its own website, in its email newsletters, and in related public sources. It is available on parish websites and in the ChatJP2 app for iOS and Android.

What we collect

• Questions you ask, and the answers. The text of each question, the answer the assistant gave, and the parish web pages the answer drew on. We keep these to help the parish see what people are asking, find information missing from its website, and improve answer quality.
• An anonymous device identifier. The app or website widget creates a random identifier and stores it on your device. We use it only to count how many different devices use a parish's assistant. It is not tied to your name or any account, and you can reset it by clearing the app's data or your browser's site data.
• Basic usage and technical data. The platform you used (web, iOS, or Android), timestamps, and standard web logs (such as IP address and browser type) used for security and reliability.
• Optional account data. If you sign in (for example, as parish staff), we store your name and email address for authentication.

Your device's time zone and language are sent with each question so the answer uses the parish's local times and your language; we do not store them. We do not collect your name, contacts, or location, and you never need an account to ask a question.

How long we keep it

Questions, answers, and the device identifier are deleted automatically after 90 days. Only signed-in administrators of the parish whose assistant you used can view them, along with our own staff when providing support.

What we do not do

• We do not sell personal information.
• We do not use your questions for advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
• We do not require an account to ask questions.

How answers are generated

To answer a question, we send its text to service providers that process it on our behalf: OpenAI (to understand the question and write the answer) and Cohere (to rank which parish pages are most relevant). We use these providers' business APIs, under terms that do not allow them to use this data to train their models. Parish content, questions, and answers are stored with Google Cloud / Firebase, and parish content is indexed for search with Pinecone.

Parish newsletters

We subscribe our own mailbox to parishes' email newsletters and use the announcements a parish sends as information its assistant can answer from. We read only that mailbox of ours, with read-only access through Google's Gmail API; we never access your email or any parish's mailbox. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Children

ChatJP2 is a general-audience service and is not directed at children under 13. Please do not include personal information in questions.

To ask about, correct, or request deletion of data associated with you, contact us at hello@chatjp2.app — or contact the parish whose assistant you used, and we will assist them.
